Getting your photo card reissued

What should you do?

You cannot renew your Photo Card, but you do have the option to apply for a new card when your old one has expired. To receive your new photo card, we encourage you to visit the center and bring along your old photo card, your completed photo card Application, and your ID.

They send out periodic reminder notices in the mail and on their app around 6 weeks before your card expires. You can apply for a renewal 6 months prior to the expiry date of your current photo card. Your NSW photo card will be valid for 5 years from the issuance date, or if you’re older than 21, for 10 years from the issuance date.

Processing time for new photo cards

Photo cards can take approximately ten days to get to you through the mail. They destroy expired cards that people hand out to them so as to prevent you from fraud and other problems when they expire.

Updating your photo

Valid photos of you in the system may be used for new photo cards. If the existing photo is too old, it is best to take new photograph.

Fees and concessions

Concessions

If you have a pensioner, senior, or carer status, you are entitled to a free photo card. Whether you have a driver’s license or not, it doesn’t matter. The new replacement is free of cost if you are –

• • Centrelink Carer Allowance reciever

• • An eligible concession cardholder and war widows

Refunds for new concession holders

You can go to any service center and take your Seniors or Senior Savers Card, or concession card to apply for a refund. Your eligibility status is verified electronically with the relevant issuing authority.

Eligible pensioners

Backdated refunds are available to eligible pensioners who had their photo cards issued on or after 17 December 2009.

Carers

Backdated refunds are available to Centrelink Carer Allowance receivers who had their photo cards issued on or after 17 December 2009.

NSW Seniors

If your NSW photo card was issued after November 26, 2012, you’re eligible for a free senior photo card. You will receive a refund based on the date you notify them that you hold a Seniors or Senior Savers Card.
